Object
These test methods are focused in showing the relative capacity of solid insulating materials to resist tracking test voltages up to 600V, when its surface is exposed to the action of water containing ionic impurities simultaneously with electric excitement.
Definitions
Tracking: irreversible degradation of the surface of an insulating material, in form of grooves, and due to electric discharges that are initiated and developed on the surface of the material. These grooves are conductive even in dry conditions. Tracking can occur on surfaces in contact with air as in contact surfaces between different materials.
Comparative Tracking Index (CTI): Numeric value of the maximum voltage, in volts, for which the material supports the deposition of 50 drops without tracking observed.
